Avast, ye scurvy dogs! The chair umpire, in the spirit of politeness, did rightly remind ye landlubbers at Wimbledon to refrain from poppin' the bubbly whilst Mirra Andreeva and Anastasia Potapova be locked in fierce battle upon the green court!
During a women’s match at the Wimbledon Championships, the chair umpire had to remind the crowd that even popping corked bottles was not allowed during play. Anastasia Potapova was facing off against Mirra Andreeva when the incident occurred. The umpire, John Blom, took to the microphone to deliver his message. He humorously scolded the crowd, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, please, if you are opening a bottle of champagne, don't do it as the players are about to serve.” The crowd clapped in response, and Potapova smiled and nodded in appreciation of the umpire’s reminder.Andreeva went on to win the match 6-2, 7-5, securing a spot in the fourth round of the Grand Slam event. The 16-year-old Russian player has been gaining attention for her impressive performance in the tournament. She expressed her satisfaction with her progress, stating, “I did a good job because now everything is working so far. Yes, I just talked with myself, and I decided everything what I have to do next. So far it’s working.” Andreeva is the youngest player to reach the fourth round since Coco Gauff accomplished the feat in 2019. She will face Madison Keys in the next round for a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
Despite her success on the court, Andreeva sees herself as a normal teenager. She enjoys watching series and has to balance her schoolwork with her tennis career. She also appreciates spending time alone. Andreeva remains focused on her goals and is determined to continue performing well in the tournament.
