Eric LeGrand, a former Rutgers football player, was watching a basketball game when he received Twitter notifications about a player from the Buffalo Bills suffering cardiac arrest on the field. LeGrand immediately switched channels to ESPN to see what was happening. Seeing the player laying on the turf hit LeGrand hard because he had experienced a similar moment during his own football career. In 2010, LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down during a game against Army. However, both LeGrand and the Bills player, Damar Hamlin, were lucky to receive quick medical attention that saved their lives. LeGrand acknowledges that without the medical staff and training, they would not be alive today.

Although LeGrand hasn't been able to speak with Hamlin, he admires his courage and was inspired by his ESPYS presentation. LeGrand also gave a speech at the ESPYS in 2012 where he expressed his determination to walk again. Currently, LeGrand continues with his physical therapy and enjoys the summer weather. He is also venturing into the bourbon business with his own brand, Eric LeGrand Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which will be partnered with Rutgers Athletics.

Hamlin, on the other hand, has been cleared to resume full football activities and is back on the field with the Bills. He is also spreading awareness for CPR training and giving back to the community through his foundation. Both LeGrand and Hamlin have turned their tragedies into sources of inspiration and positivity.
