2023-07-18

Avast ye scurvy dogs! In Cincinnati, whilst playin' a game, a dreadful weather delay did befall us. 'Twas a sight to behold, as a poor soul from the ground crew was snatched up by the treacherous tarp! Arr, 'twas a rare show that captivated the baseball world, ye see.

In a comical turn of events, a member of the Cincinnati Reds' grounds crew found himself in a sticky situation during a rain delay at Great American Ballpark. As the rain began to fall during a tied game between the San Francisco Giants and the Reds, the crew was tasked with covering the field with a tarp. However, one unfortunate crew member slipped and was swallowed up by the massive tarp while the rest of the crew continued to pull it over the infield dirt.
This incident is not the first time Great American Ballpark has encountered what they call "tarp monsters." Two years ago, another crew member briefly disappeared under a tarp during a weather delay. The broadcasters covering the game couldn't help but make some humorous comments, jokingly reacting to the crew member's misfortune.
After nearly two hours, the game was eventually suspended and rescheduled for the following day. Fortunately, the trapped crew member was able to escape the tarp's clutches, albeit covered in dirt. Reds president of ballpark operations, Sean Brown, even joined the crew on the field to help secure the tarp against strong winds.
Despite the unusual delay, the game between the Reds and Giants is set to continue the next day. The Reds' Luke Weaver will face off against the Giants' Anthony DeSclafani in the second game of the series. It remains to be seen if the grounds crew will have any more unexpected encounters with the tarp monsters.
