Arr, me mateys! Photoshop hath been gifted yet another upgrade, now powered by the mystical AI, Generative Expand! Here be the secrets to wieldin' this new power.

Photoshop has introduced a new feature called Generative Expand that allows users to extend images in any direction with just a few clicks. This feature, available to Photoshop (Beta) users, uses AI generative technology to automatically fill in the extra space or follow the prompts provided by the user. It is similar to the existing Generative Fill feature but works with the Crop tool instead of the Marquee or Lasso tools.
To use Generative Expand, users select the Crop tool, go to the Fill menu in the Options bar, and choose Generative Expand. They can then adjust the size of the image by dragging the corner and side handles and click the 'Generative Expand' button. Photoshop can guess what should be added to the image or users can provide a text prompt to guide the AI. The results are photo-realistic, although there may be some mistakes or artifacts.
While other apps have offered image expansion features for a while, Photoshop's entry into this space shows its commitment to AI image generation. With the launch of Firefly, Adobe's family of tools to rival companies like Midjourney and Dall-E, the company is taking a cautious approach due to potential copyright issues. Adobe has trained its Firefly-powered tools on Adobe Stock images, openly-licensed content, or public domain content with expired copyrights to avoid infringing on artists' works.
Google has also expressed support for Adobe's ethical approach to AI and plans to integrate Firefly image generation into its Bard chatbot. However, the rollout of this integration has yet to happen. Adobe's Generative Expand feature is a valuable addition to Photoshop for professionals who want to expand their images without worrying about copyright infringement.
