Avast ye! Thar be fresh footage from th' Bristol Police Department, showin' the capture o' Dennis Hernandez. Fears be spreadin' that he be makin' threats o' a school shootin'. Aye, 'tis a tale worth watchin', me hearties!
In a recently released body cam footage, Dennis J. Hernandez, brother of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, had a troubling interaction with law enforcement after a woman reported his alleged plans for a school shooting. Hernandez, also known as "DJ," was arrested on July 19 and charged with breach of the peace and making physical threats. The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, claimed to have received concerning messages from Hernandez, including one that implied violence and planning. According to the arrest report, the woman said Hernandez had visited Brown University and the University of Connecticut, where he played college football, to "map out the schools." Another woman, who had a previous relationship with Hernandez, confirmed his visits to the campuses and even entering buildings and classrooms at UConn. Social media posts made by Hernandez led police to assess the situation at a residence on July 19, resulting in his encounter with law enforcement officers.During initial contact with the police, Hernandez claimed to be armed and threatened to kill them. Body cam footage showed Hernandez advancing towards the police with his hands outstretched, repeatedly yelling "shoot me" and ignoring police commands. Hernandez continued to make threats towards law enforcement while being treated at the hospital. This is not the first time Hernandez has had a run-in with the law. He was previously arrested in March for throwing a bag with a brick and a note onto ESPN's property and failed to appear in court in July. Hernandez, who played football for the University of Connecticut, is scheduled to appear in court on August 1 and is currently being held on a $250,000 bail.
