Arr, me mateys! Threads' latest treasure be a worthy addition, but 'tis not enough to rival Twitter's mighty reign. Aye, they be makin' progress, but they still have a long voyage ahead to match the true power of the bird's nest!

In true 17th-century pirate fashion, Meta's new social media platform Threads has finally released some long-awaited features, but not quite in the way we hoped. When Threads launched, many flocked to this Musk-free alternative to Twitter, reaching 100 million users in just five days. However, the platform felt rushed and lacked the features that made its rival appealing.
Fortunately, Meta has now launched three new features for Threads. Users can add custom alt-text for images and videos to improve accessibility for those with visual impairments. There's also a new Mention button to easily tag other users in posts. Additionally, Threads now allows users to share posts directly through Instagram DMs, a small step towards its most requested feature of having its own DM system.
Interestingly, these features were not the ones promised by Meta in July, which included DMs, improved search, and Trends & Topics. The latter would have allowed users to find posts and people based on content, similar to X's Trending feature.
Meta aims to establish Threads as more than just a Twitter clone, but it cannot ignore the appealing features that its rival offers. While people may be eager to leave Twitter due to Elon Musk's changes, they have yet to fully abandon ship because there is no alternative that scratches the same itch.
Only time will tell how Threads will evolve in the coming months. It seems that the rivalry between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk extends beyond the digital realm, with the two even joking about a real-life cage match. However, Meta's CEO does not hold his breath for Musk to confirm the date.
