With a jolly algorithm for music plunderin', the fresh Samples tab be mixin' shanties and moving pictures in a TikTok-like manner. Arrr, 'tis a fine way to find new tunes, me hearties!

YouTube Music is introducing a Samples tab on mobile, which will showcase short-form video segments of new artists to potential fans. The feature will be located in the bottom navigation bar and will display personalized feeds of up-and-coming artists or legacy musicians that the algorithm thinks users would enjoy. Each track will be accompanied by a 30-second video clip. The algorithm for Samples is a mix between Supermix and Discover, highlighting familiar musicians while also incorporating new clips. This move is not surprising considering the popularity of YouTube Shorts and the vast library of songs on the platform.
Those who have tried Samples find it to be a fun way to discover new music. Users can like songs, add them to playlists, share favorites with friends, or use them in a YouTube Short. Additional tools are available by tapping the three dots, such as downloading songs (for YouTube Premium subscribers) or checking out the musician's profile. Samples is a free addition to YouTube Music and does not require a Premium subscription. The feature is currently rolling out globally.
The trend of combining music with endless feeds is growing, as seen with Spotify's mobile app redesign and TikTok's plans to launch its own music streaming service. It remains to be seen if other platforms, like Tidal, will follow suit. For those interested in exploring different music streaming services, TechRadar has a list of the best options for 2023.
