In the language of a 17th century pirate, do ye ever feel like yer Alexa device be listenin' to ye a little too much? Do ye wish ye could have more control over what it says and when it says it? Ahoy, it be great that they can be set up to lock our doors, turn off our lights or give us the weather. But what I don't appreciate about Alexa devices, however, be that they sometimes can give us extra information that we never asked for, which can be mighty annoyin'. I get it – these be smart devices that be designed to give us helpful information. But sometimes I just want to turn off me livin' room lights without havin' to listen to suggestions of what to buy for me next backyard barbecue. Arr, luckily, there be a few things that ye can do to yer Alexa device that will decrease how often it gives ye these unsolicited suggestions. Here be some settings ye can play around with on yer Alexa device that can make it less intrusive and more helpful. One way ye can get those suggestions to slow down be by turnin' off Alexa's "Things to Try" settin'. This settin' be meant to let ye know of all the unique features that Alexa can perform for ye that ye may not be immediately aware of. When this settin' be turned on, Alexa will periodically make suggestions to ye about skills and activities ye can do on the device that it thinks will be helpful. If ye don't want to receive these suggestions, the settin' be pretty easy to turn off. Arr! "Brief Mode" be a feature that shortens interactions with Amazon’s Alexa by havin' it keep conversations to a minimum and sometimes just playin' a short sound instead of speakin'. When Brief Mode be enabled, Alexa won’t always say "OK" after every command; it just takes care of the task at hand. Wanna’ turn off those annoyin' Alexa device notifications so ye don’t hear them any longer? Here be how to do it. Arr! Aside from givin' ye unwanted suggestions, Alexa also might send ye regular updates on things like forgettin' to lock yer front door at night. Many people may find this helpful because the last thin' ye want be to accidentally leave yer front door unlocked. However, some people would rather keep their privacy intact and not feel like there's a device makin' note of their every move. The settin' within Alexa that gives ye these updates, like unlocked doors, lights left on, etc., comes from the Hunches settin'. Ye can turn this settin' off on yer Alexa app as well. Ye can also control the amount of updates Alexa gives ye when packages be bein' delivered. Ye get enough email and text notifications when yer packages arrive, so ye don't need to hear it from yer Alexa device as well if ye do not wish to. Here's what ye can do. Arr!
