Yarr, word be spreadin' that Myles Jack, a salty dog o' a linebacker, hath told them Philadelphia Eagles that he be hangin' up his hat. This old sea dog hath sailed the league's waters fer seven seasons.
The Philadelphia Eagles have been informed that veteran linebacker Myles Jack is retiring after seven seasons. Jack had been considering a career change before the Eagles added him to their roster. He had even contemplated becoming an electrician or plumber before joining the team. Jack expressed a desire to work and be innovative, saying that if a zombie apocalypse came, he wanted to be able to build something. However, the Eagles already had someone ahead of Jack at middle linebacker, with Nakobe Dean ready to step into a starting role alongside Nicholas Morrow and Haason Reddick.Jack was originally a second-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars after playing three seasons with the UCLA Bruins. He had a slow start to his rookie season but started all 16 games in 2017, making 90 combined tackles, two sacks, and a scoop-and-score fumble recovery. He had his first 100-plus tackle season in his third year and signed a four-year extension with the Jaguars before the 2019 season. However, he was released by the Jaguars in March 2022 to save cap space.
Jack joined the Pittsburgh Steelers last season and had over 100 tackles for the third straight season. However, he was once again a cap casualty and was released by the Steelers in March. The Eagles signed him to a one-year deal earlier this month, but after a few weeks at training camp, Jack is now deciding to retire from football.
