Arrr, William Byron be snatchin' his 5th NASCAR victory, leadin' the season afore the playoffs be upon us!

In a dominant performance at Watkins Glen International, William Byron secured his fifth victory of the season, establishing himself as a favorite to win the Cup Series. Byron, driving the No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, led 66 laps, including the final 33, and left his competitors in the dust. Denny Hamlin finished in second place, followed by Christopher Bell, AJ Allmendinger, and Ty Gibbs. Martin Truex Jr., who finished sixth, failed to lock up the regular-season title, setting up a showdown between Truex and Hamlin at Daytona International Speedway. The unpredictable Daytona race will also be the last chance for several drivers, including fan favorite Chase Elliott, to secure a spot in the playoffs. Elliott's hopes were dashed when he ran out of fuel with 36 laps to go, forcing him to win at Daytona. Bubba Wallace, Daniel Suarez, and Ty Gibbs are also fighting for the final playoff spot. Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski secured their playoff berths at Watkins Glen, while Michael McDowell, who won last week, struggled with pit road penalties and an engine issue, finishing last. The series now moves on to Daytona for the regular-season finale, where Austin Dillon is the defending race winner.
