Avast ye hearties! Philadelphia Phillies scallywag Bryson Stott, he be a fine infielder indeed, be showin' his respect for the mighty quill, a tool we all wielded in our scholarly youth, at the Little League Classic on Sunday. Arrr!
In a playful twist, Philadelphia Phillies infielder Bryson Stott paid homage to the classic No. 2 pencil by using a custom-made bat designed to look like the iconic writing utensil. Playing in the Little League Classic as part of the Little League World Series festivities, Stott stepped into the batter's box with a bat made by Victus that resembled a No. 2 pencil complete with an eraser and the green metal piece between the eraser and the yellow pencil. The realistic design of Stott's bat quickly went viral on social media, with many users praising the custom creation. With numerous young baseball enthusiasts in the stands, Stott's intention was to reminisce about his own childhood love for baseball and school days. Despite the Phillies' loss to the Washington Nationals, Stott's performance at the plate was decent, finishing 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Stott was not the only player from the Phillies to engage with the young Little Leaguers during their time in Williamsport. Teammates Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner also joined in the interactions, signing autographs, taking pictures, and enjoying the tournament before their evening game.
The Little League Classic, introduced by MLB in 2017, brings together professional players and Little Leaguers for a unique experience. The upcoming edition will feature the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees, and it remains to be seen what creative accessories players will bring to the diamond next year.
