Arrr! The next gem from AMD, the RX 7600 successor, might just be a purse-friendly GPU that gives Nvidia a proper thrashing!

2023-08-21

Arrr, me hearties! Methinks that AMD be settin' its sights on caterin' to the desires of us PC gamers with their latest treasure, RDNA 4. 'Tis said to be offerin' affordable and sprightly graphics cards, fit fer pillagin' the virtual seas!

There have been concerns that AMD's next-gen graphics cards may not live up to expectations, as rumors suggest that Team Red will not be releasing a high-end GPU and will instead focus on the mid-range market. However, this does not mean that RDNA 4 will be weak. In a humorous tone, a video by Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) reassures viewers that RDNA 4 could still offer an impressive leap in performance.

While talk of a high-end cancellation remains speculation, MLID's source claims that AMD is planning to release two mid-range monolithic GPUs, Navi 43 and 44, which will remain competitive until 2025. These graphics cards, expected to be more powerful than current mid-range options, are set to be released in about a year's time and will be able to compete with Nvidia's next-gen mid-range offerings.

MLID highlights that RDNA 4 will use a superior process (3nm or 4nm) compared to current-gen RDNA 3, and that the RX 7600 is already competitive with Nvidia's RTX 4060 in rasterization. If AMD can address power consumption issues with RDNA 3, it is anticipated that RDNA 4 will offer very powerful mid-range options due to the process drop.

However, it is important to note that the exact specifications for these next-gen graphics cards have not been confirmed yet. MLID mentions a potential configuration of 64 CUs for Navi 43 and 32 CUs for Navi 44, with the latter being around 30% to 50% faster than the RX 7600 when considering the process shrink, architectural gains, and superior VRAM (GDDR7).

Assuming AMD can maintain competitive pricing, the RX 8600 (or whatever it is named) could be an attractive option for PC gamers and a challenge for Nvidia. By focusing on more affordable GPUs, AMD is responding to the demand from gamers for cheaper graphics cards. Overall, RDNA 4 is expected to offer excellent value proposition for users on a budget.
