2023-08-22

Avast ye! Tampa Bay Buccaneers' captain, Todd Bowles, hath decreed that the scurvy dog, Baker Mayfield, shall be the helm of our ship, with young Kyle Trask as his trusty mate. 'Tis a choice worthy of a pirate's laughter, aye!

Tom Brady's successor in Tampa Bay has been announced, and it's none other than Baker Mayfield. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles confirmed that Mayfield will be starting as quarterback in their upcoming season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, with Kyle Trask as the backup. The news was shared on social media, or what the Buccaneers' team referred to as "X", formerly known as Twitter. Mayfield and Trask had been competing for the starting position during training camp, with the unofficial depth chart initially listing them as "OR" options. Mayfield got the nod to start in the first preseason game, and he performed well, completing eight of nine passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Trask, on the other hand, got his chance to start in Week 2 of the preseason against the New York Jets, where he threw for 218 yards and a touchdown.

Mayfield signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers in the offseason, hoping for a fresh start after playing for multiple teams in the previous season. In a statement, Mayfield expressed his confidence in his abilities and his readiness to prove himself on the field. Trask, who was drafted by the Bucs in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, has yet to start a game. With the announcement of Mayfield as the starting quarterback, all eyes will be on him as he takes on the role of leading the Buccaneers' offense in the post-Brady era. Mayfield's determination and drive, coupled with the support of the team's veterans and recent success, will undoubtedly contribute to the team's overall performance and their pursuit of another Super Bowl appearance.
