2023-08-22

Avast, ye scurvy dogs! The updated roadmap of Microsoft Edge hath unveiled a treasure trove o' AI wonders, ready to enhance yer searchin' and whatnot. Prepare to be blown away by the mighty powers o' technology, me hearties!

In October 2022, Microsoft Edge Canary introduced a new feature called Smart Find, which uses AI to find related pages and the correct page even if you misspell a word or phrase. This feature will now be available for all users according to the recently updated Microsoft 365 roadmap. The roadmap also mentions another new feature called Match, which allows users to match whole words and accented characters using Find Filters.
Neowin reports that there is another feature being tested, which is the ability to use "Find on Page" in the Edge sidebar. The updated version displays the entire sentence containing the search term instead of using a new popup.
Microsoft states that the new Edge AI features will be rolled out in September 2023 for all Edge users. However, users can download Edge Beta, Dev, or Canary from the official Edge Insider website to access them now. It should be noted that Smart Find is not supported for Linux or macOS, only for Microsoft Edge on Windows. The rollout of "Find in Page" will also be gradual for Edge users.
While Microsoft Edge is considered a superior browser with many features and tools, it is often criticized for its aggressive advertising and the installation of bloatware without permission. Some users prefer other browsers like Mozilla Firefox over Edge and Chrome.
