Cherry is launching a new switch line called the Cherry MX2A Switch, which is an upgraded version of the original MX Switch from 1983. The company claims that the new switch design offers smoother actuation, improved acoustics, and a lifespan of over 100 million actuations. The Hyperglide technology and lubricant on the socket dome contribute to the smoother actuations and reduced spring noise. The new barrel shape allows for near-contactless linear movement, reducing wear and tear. Additionally, the ribbed spring-centering stem improves sound consistency and reduces scratchiness. The Cherry MX2A Switches come in variations like MX Red, MX Brown, MX Black, MX Speed Silver, MX Silent Red, and their RGB counterparts. The MX Blue version retains its distinctive clicky character by not including lubrication and barrel spring. The first keyboard to feature the MX2A Switches is the Cherry XTRFY K5V2, based on the K5 keyboard. It has a 65% format and offers hot-swappable switches, stabilizers, keycaps, cable, frame, and logo plate. The keyboard features metal plate construction, LED RGB lighting, sound-dampening foam, and pre-lubed stabilizers. It offers customization options for RGB illumination, macros, and media controls. The Cherry MX2A Switch is currently available through retail partners, while the Cherry XTRFY K5V2 mechanical keyboard will be released later in 2023.Cherry is known for manufacturing high-quality mechanical switches, dominating the best gaming keyboard switches list and being featured in top gaming laptops. The Alienware m18, for example, uses a full CherryMX RGB mechanical keyboard. Cherry switches are well-built and deliver great performance, feel, and sound. Despite their success, the design of the switches has remained unchanged for decades. With the improvements and design changes in the MX2A Switch, we can hope for even better switch performance in the future.
