In a wild turn of events at the NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400, a massive wreck occurred at the Daytona International Speedway. During the second stage, Christopher Bell gave Ty Gibbs a little nudge, causing Gibbs to lose control and take out Ryan Blaney in the process. Blaney crashed head-on into the wall, while several other cars got caught up in the chaos.Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Alex Bowman, and A.J. Allmendinger were among those involved in the wreck as they tried to avoid the pileup. Additionally, Austin Cindric, Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin, Chris Buescher, Harrison Burton, Kyle Larson, and Riley Herbst were also caught in the mess. In total, 16 cars were affected by the incident, leading to a red flag and a pause in the race to allow the cleanup crew to handle the track.
Despite the chaos, some drivers managed to come out unscathed. Brad Keselowski successfully navigated through the crash and won the second stage, while Martin Truex Jr. claimed victory in the first stage. The race was on Lap 96 of 160 when the red flag was issued.
Fortunately, Ryan Blaney reported that he was "OK" and received clearance from the infield care center. Meanwhile, the wreck had playoff implications for drivers like Daniel Suarez and Bubba Wallace. Suarez, vying for the final playoff spot, was in third place and needed a win to secure his position. Wallace, on the other hand, would secure a playoff spot as long as the race didn't introduce a new winner.
