Avast ye, me hearties! Behold, the ViewFinity S9 5K, fit for scurvy dogs sailin' Windows and Mac. Aye, 'tis a treasure with supreme resolution and a bounty o' image boostin' abilities.
Samsung has finally launched its ViewFinity S9 5K monitor after a long wait. This monitor offers a 5K resolution and is aimed at creatives. It features IPS technology, which provides excellent color output and viewing angles. The screen supports 99 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut and delivers 600 nits of brightness, resulting in vibrant colors and dark shadows. The ViewFinity S9 also has a Matte Display coating to reduce light reflections. As a rival to the Apple Studio Display, Samsung has addressed some of the issues affecting Apple's hardware. The ViewFinity S9 allows users to recalibrate the screen with the Smart Calibration tool on the SmartThings app. This feature is available on certain smartphone models, including Galaxy S10, Galaxy Fold, and iPhone 11. It can also connect to both Windows and select Mac computers.
In terms of construction, the ViewFinity S9's hinge is adjustable, allowing users to tilt or pivot the screen for the best viewing angle. Other notable features include a 4K SlimFit webcam and Samsung Gaming Hub pre-installed for quick access to popular games.
However, the monitor does have some drawbacks. It lacks an HDMI port but offers Thunderbolt 4 input, three USB-C ports, and one Mini DisplayPort. Additionally, the ViewFinity S9 is priced at $1,600 in the United States, which is not cheap.
It is unclear if Samsung plans to release the monitor in other countries. Overall, the ViewFinity S9 is a strong competitor to Apple's Studio Display, offering similar specs and additional features at a comparable price.
