The 2023 New York Yankees, known as one of the worst teams in franchise history, decided to look to the future by calling up 20-year-old outfielder Jasson Domínguez and 24-year-old catcher Austin Wells as September call-ups. Both players had memorable debuts in their first MLB plate appearances by getting hits. Domínguez, the team's second-ranked prospect, made a grand entrance into the big leagues against future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros.
