2023-09-01

Arr mateys, them Yankees be summonin' two fine young lads on Friday, and by Davy Jones' locker, both o' 'em landed a hit in their very first at-bats. One o' them scallywags even blasted a moonshot off a future Hall o' Famer, ye scurvy landlubber!

The 2023 New York Yankees, known as one of the worst teams in franchise history, decided to look to the future by calling up 20-year-old outfielder Jasson Domínguez and 24-year-old catcher Austin Wells as September call-ups. Both players had memorable debuts in their first MLB plate appearances by getting hits. Domínguez, the team's second-ranked prospect, made a grand entrance into the big leagues against future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros. He hit a home run on his very first swing, becoming the first Yankee since Aaron Judge to achieve this feat. Domínguez, also known as "The Martian" for his exceptional talent, was signed from the Dominican Republic at the age of 16. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season, he did not play until 2021. Despite being in Double-A just weeks ago, his impressive performance in Triple-A prompted the Yankees to call him up. Wells, the team's eighth-rated prospect and a first-round draft pick in 2020, also made an impact by singling off Verlander in the second inning. The Yankees, currently under .500 and facing their arch-nemesis, hope that these top prospects will help them forget about the disappointing season.
