College football returned this week, bringing with it a full slate of games and exciting moments. One of these games was the home opener for the Purdue Boilermakers, who faced off against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Despite it being the head coaching debut for Purdue's Ryan Walters, they unfortunately lost the game. However, the highlight of the game came from Purdue wide receiver Deion Burks. On a third-and-2 play in the first quarter, Purdue quarterback Hudson Card threw a pass to Burks, who made an incredible catch in the middle of the field. Burks then proceeded to evade four Fresno State defenders and sprinted 84 yards for a touchdown. This was not only the first touchdown of the season for Purdue, but also Burks' first touchdown in his collegiate career. Prior to this season, Burks had 16 career receptions for 175 yards.

In the end, Fresno State's Mikey Keene threw for four touchdowns and led his team to a 39-35 victory. Keene connected on 31 of 44 passes for 366 yards, with one of his touchdown passes coming in the final minute to secure the win. Purdue's coach, Walters, admitted that Keene "lit us up" during the game. Despite the loss, Fresno State's offense had a 13-minute time of possession advantage over Purdue, and their coach, Jeff Tedford, praised his team for minimizing unforced errors and playing a clean game.

Overall, while it may not have been the desired outcome for Purdue in their first game under new head coach Ryan Walters, the standout moment came from Deion Burks and his impressive touchdown catch and run. Both teams displayed their talent and determination on the field, setting the stage for an exciting college football season ahead.
