Arrr! Young Ben Shelton, a mere 20 years in age, hath smashed the 2023 U.S. Open serve speed record, mark ye, at a mighty 149 nautical miles per hour! 'Twas on his victorious path to the quarterfinals, after vanquishing Tommy Paul in the round of 16.

Ben Shelton, a 20-year-old tennis player, has gained attention at the 2023 U.S. Open due to his impressive serves and incredible gameplay. In his match against Tommy Paul, Shelton's lefty stroke produced serves that reached a staggering 149 miles per hour, leaving the crowd in awe. This served as an improvement from his previous match against Aslan Karatsev, where he recorded the fastest serve of the Open at 147 miles per hour. However, the record for the fastest serve at the U.S. Open still stands at 152 miles per hour, achieved by Andy Roddick in 2004.

Shelton attributes his powerful serves to adrenaline and admits that he wouldn't be able to replicate it in any other atmosphere. He also finds it remarkable that he and Roddick are mentioned in the same breath, as both were 20 years old when they reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. Roddick, who went on to win the tournament in 2003, serves as a source of inspiration for Shelton.

Shelton's revenge against Paul, whom he lost to in the Australian Open, came in the form of a 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory. He will now face Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals, making history as this is the first major tournament since 1968 to feature multiple Black American men in this stage. Shelton expresses gratitude for the support he has received from the American crowd and is thrilled to be playing on Arthur Ashe.

With Taylor Fritz also making it to the quarterfinals, all three American players will be vying to become the first American to win the U.S. Open since Roddick in 2003. Shelton hopes to follow in Roddick's footsteps and utilize his powerful serve to achieve this milestone.
