Serbian power forward Boriša Simanić underwent surgery to remove a kidney after being elbowed during the FIBA World Cup. The incident occurred during Serbia's game against South Sudan, when Simanić was struck in the midsection by Nuni Omot. Simanić immediately experienced pain and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. However, complications arose when his blood type couldn't be found in the Philippines. Serbian players offered to donate blood, but Simanić ultimately had to undergo a second operation to have his kidney removed.Omot expressed remorse for the incident, apologizing and wishing Simanić a speedy recovery. Simanić, who has been a consistent member of the Serbian national team, had been playing in a reserve role this year.
