2023-09-04

Avast ye scurvy dogs! 'Tis a tale of misfortune! Dodger's own Julio Urías, a swashbucklin' starter, be taken into custody on charges of domestic mischief under the moon's watchful eye. The Dodgers and MLB be well aware of this dreaded circumstance.

In a surprising turn of events, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has been arrested and charged with felony domestic violence, marking his second arrest of this nature in the past four years. The 27-year-old was taken into custody late Sunday night and booked into jail, but was released on $50,000 bond. His court date has been set for September 27.
The Dodgers organization issued a statement acknowledging the incident and announced that Urías would not be traveling with the team while they gather all the facts surrounding the case. Major League Baseball (MLB) has also launched an investigation into the matter, and it is customary for the league to place players charged with domestic violence on administrative leave during the investigation process.
This is not the first time Urías has faced repercussions related to domestic violence allegations. In 2019, he was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, although he was not formally charged. Nevertheless, MLB intervened and suspended him for 20 games under their domestic violence policy, making him the first player to receive such a suspension without being charged.
Despite these legal issues, Urías has had a successful career thus far. He currently boasts a 4.60 ERA over 21 starts in the 2023 season, but had the league's best ERA in 2022 at 2.16 over 31 starts and 175 innings. Over his career, he has maintained a 3.11 ERA in 158 games with an impressive record of 60-25.
Urías is set to become a free agent after this year, but his future in the sport remains uncertain due to his ongoing legal troubles. Only time will tell what consequences await him from both the legal system and MLB.
