Arr, ye scurvy dogs be tellin' tales o' the v57 Quest 2 update, claimin' 'tis lackluster compared to past treasures. But fear not, for Meta might 'ave a grand Quest 3 patch awaitin' us, filled with booty and adventure!

Meta is releasing update v57 for the Meta Quest Pro and Oculus Quest 2, which is the final patch before the Meta Quest 3 launch event. While this update may not be as exciting as previous ones, it does bring some improvements that will enhance the Quest 3 experience.
One of the biggest changes in this update is the ability to customize your avatar. You'll now have more control over your avatar's appearance, including skin tone, hair and eyebrow color, and makeup. This will allow your virtual representation to better match your real-life look.
Meta's avatars are not only used in its own VR apps but also in third-party experiences. The new customization options will enable a more accurate representation of yourself in a wider range of VR activities and may encourage more developers to support Meta avatars in their software.
Another change is the addition of free-form locomotion in Horizon Home, the VR space where users first land when they boot up their headset. Previously, users could only jump between preset hotspots, but now they can teleport almost anywhere in the space using the joystick.
Lastly, Meta is introducing the ability to unsend image messages in VR and the Meta Quest mobile app for certain regions. Users in Australia, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the US will be able to unsend messages and correct any mistakes they may have made.
While this update may not be as impressive as previous ones, it is possible that Meta is saving big platform changes for a later update after the Quest 3 has launched. Additionally, Meta may be leaving the Quest OS in a good state for a few months while it works on developing user-requested features that come in after launch.
Overall, this update sets the stage for the upcoming Quest 3 release, and more exciting features may be unveiled at the Meta Connect 2023 event on September 27.
