However, this year he blames his participation in LIV for not being selected. Johnson had five top-10 finishes in LIV events, but it seems that didn't matter much. If he had stayed on the PGA Tour, there's a good chance he could have automatically qualified. But he only earned points in majors, where he didn't perform well. Despite finishing tied for 10th at the U.S. Open, he struggled at the other majors. Johnson currently ranks 40th in points among U.S. players, with the top six automatically qualifying and the captain picking six others. The Ryder Cup is set to begin on Sept. 29 near Rome, and the U.S. team is hoping to secure their first victory on European soil since 1993.
