Avast ye scurvy dogs! The Houston Area Women's Center be cryin' out to the NBA and other sportin' leagues to toughen up their swashbucklin' policies on domestic violence! All 'cause o' those slippery allegations against Kevin Porter Jr., arrr!
The Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC) is calling on the NBA to ban Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. after he was arrested and charged with assault and strangulation following an incident with his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, in a New York City hotel room. HAWC, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence, believes that professional leagues like the NBA need to strengthen their policies for cases like Porter's. HAWC President and CEO Emilee Whitehurst stated that it is time for leagues to take a stand against domestic violence and hold offenders accountable.Prosecutors revealed that Gondrezick suffered a fractured neck vertebra and a deep cut above her right eye as a result of the alleged attack. However, Gondrezick's lawyer claims that statements attributed to her were not actually her words and that Porter did not strike her repeatedly. Assistant District Attorney Mirah Curzer stated during Porter's arraignment that he repeatedly punched Gondrezick, causing a gash to her eye and a broken bone in her neck.
Although Hantman, Gondrezick's lawyer, argues that she has a congenital defect that was mistaken for a fractured vertebra, Curzer emphasized that this is a serious domestic violence case. The police found evidence of a violent struggle, with a hallway covered in blood after Gondrezick fled her room and called the authorities.
Porter has a history of abusing Gondrezick, including a previous incident where he intentionally drove his car into hers. He was ordered to post bail or bond to be released from police custody. The Rockets have stated that they are gathering information surrounding the matter and have no further comment at this time.
Porter's future in the NBA remains uncertain as the league considers its response to these serious allegations.
