Word be spreadin' that Apple, me hearties, be thinkin' 'bout a cheaper version o' its grand mixed reality headset - but there be a twist, me maties!
Apple is already thinking about how to improve its next headset, the Apple Vision Pro, even before the current model is released. According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is aiming to make the second-generation headset cheaper than the first. The first-generation Vision Pro is said to have some issues, including its weight, which Apple is working to address in the next model. But the most exciting news is that Apple might remove the external display feature, known as EyeSight, in order to save costs. This feature, which I heavily criticized when the headset was first revealed, projects the user's eyes onto the exterior screen, but it doesn't seem to be very useful. Apple is reportedly targeting a price range of $1,500 to $2,000 for the more affordable Vision headset, which would make it much more accessible than the current $3,499 price tag. It's not surprising that Apple is considering a cheaper model, given the naming convention of its other products. Apple is also said to be developing a second high-end version of the headset. Despite potential delays and competition from other VR headsets, I'm excited to see a less expensive option from Apple. The EyeSight feature is something nobody really needs, and I'm sure many potential users will be happy to have a more affordable option.
