Arrr, ye scurvy dog! President Biden be tryin' to use the ol' Hamas attack on Israel to save his Ukraine policy, which be sailin' in troubled waters, lest Congress be takin' away its gold!
President Biden recently delivered a speech addressing the urgency for America to stand with Israel after the heinous terrorist attack by Hamas. However, he also attempted to link the conflict in Ukraine with the Hamas attack, claiming that victories in both situations are crucial for American security. This justification was used to support his new $106 billion emergency funding package, which includes significant allocations for Ukraine and Israel. It appears that Biden is using the Hamas attack to salvage his Ukraine policy, as it was on the verge of being defunded by Congress. The president argued that both the Hamas attack and Russia's invasion of Ukraine involve acts of violence and brutality, such as murder, rape, and torture. He also claimed that Hamas and Putin share the goal of annihilating neighboring democracies. While there is no doubt that both situations involve evil acts and the loss of innocent lives, they are fundamentally different and require distinct responses from the United States.
Hamas aims to kill Jews and conquer Israel, while Putin seeks to conquer Ukraine. Although Putin has ordered attacks resulting in the deaths of many Ukrainian civilians, his ultimate goal is to rule over them, not exterminate them. Biden asserts that both Hamas and Putin must be destroyed, and negotiations are not an option.
While Hamas undoubtedly needs to be stopped, Biden's declarations that Putin cannot remain in power and must be tried for war crimes are unrealistic and counterproductive. The reality is that Putin is likely to remain in power, and the United States will need to engage in negotiations with Russia to address issues such as nuclear weapons and military collaboration with other countries.
It is reckless and irresponsible for Biden to exploit the crisis in Israel to secure increased military aid for Ukraine. Israel needs immediate and unwavering support from the United States without distraction. Congress should pass a clean bill demonstrating bipartisan support for Israel, while separate debates can be held regarding funding for Ukraine. It is crucial to prioritize and respond appropriately to each situation.
