Avast ye! Politico hath uncovered a treasure trove o' troubles within a voting rights crew led by the fair maiden Stacey Abrams. Methinks they be drownin' in gold and mismanagement, arrr!

The New Georgia Project, a voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams, is facing controversy and financial mismanagement allegations. Politico conducted a six-month investigation into the organization and found that one of its board chairs, Frank Wilson, has launched an internal probe into the finances. The organization's tax filings revealed that its former executive director, who was chosen by Abrams but fired last year, owes the organization thousands of dollars in "non-work-related" reimbursements. Nsé Ufot, the former director, denied the allegations.

According to Politico, the New Georgia Project failed to properly track company expenses and account for salary advances and other expenditures. The organization also faced infighting and a toxic work environment, according to multiple former employees. The group is under investigation over whether its election advocacy violated rules limiting direct political activity by nonprofits, and it is also in a dispute with the IRS over payment of payroll taxes.

This is not the first controversy for Abrams' voting rights group. In 2014, the group was investigated for fraud in its voter registration efforts, and in 2020, it faced an investigation into allegations of registering ineligible, out-of-state, or deceased voters. The group also received a Paycheck Protection Program loan despite receiving millions in donations.

Frank Wilson, the board chair, stated that the organization will conduct a forensic look at its records and welcome scrutiny from authorities and the media. Fox News reached out to the New Georgia Project for comment but did not receive a response.
