The group described themselves as the "largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world" and stated that over 700 Bay Area Jews and allies were participating in the protest. They demanded an end to the bloodshed and refused to leave the area, leading to arrests by law enforcement. The protesters called on President Biden and Vice President Harris to join Representative Barbara Lee in calling for an immediate cease-fire.The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in over 11,000 deaths and many more injuries. The protesters claimed that this mass sit-in was the first of its kind on the West Coast, although similar demonstrations have taken place in New York and Chicago. The federal employees at the building were forced to evacuate when the protesters took over. Filmmaker Boots Riley was among the protesters and stated that the government of Israel does not represent all Jewish people.
