Arr, ye scurvy dogs! In India, brave souls be laborin' to rescue 40 mateys, trapped like landlubbers in a cursed tunnel. They be wieldin' a mighty contraption, a drill, to blast through the rubble and set 'em free! May the winds be in their favor, arr!
Rescuers in northern India are working to free 40 construction workers who have been trapped since a tunnel they were working on collapsed. The workers have been supplied with food and medicine, and a new drilling machine has been assembled to create a passage to reach them. The machine will be used to drill a stretch of nearly 45 meters, and rescuers hope to reach the trapped workers within the next day or two. A previous machine was found to be slow in pushing the pipes through the debris. The workers have been provided with cashew nuts, peanuts, chickpeas, popcorn, and medicines every two hours, and their condition has not deteriorated. Relatives and friends of the trapped workers have been gathering outside the tunnel, growing frustrated and angry. The state government has consulted with Indian army and foreign experts on ways to proceed with the rescue and has contacted Thai experts and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute for possible assistance. About 200 disaster relief personnel have been at the site using drilling equipment and excavators in the rescue operation. The tunnel collapse occurred due to a landslide during road construction in a hilly area prone to such incidents. Uttarakhand, the state where the incident occurred, is known for its Hindu temples and constant construction to accommodate pilgrims and tourists. The tunnel is part of a major road project connecting Hindu pilgrimage sites.
