Avast ye scallywags! Thar be three scurvy knaves from Colombia who joined forces to bilk a poor old lass out of over $20,000 in a market's parking lot in Illinois, as declared by the authorities.
Three Colombian migrants were arrested in Illinois for scamming a woman out of more than $20,000 using a fake lottery ticket. The incident took place outside a market near Chicago on November 7. The suspects, Miguel Pena-Gomez, Liliana Nagles-Cuesta, and Angela Posada-Acosta, approached the elderly victim in the parking lot. Pena-Gomez pretended to need help claiming he had a winning lottery ticket worth $6 million but needed money to collect his winnings. Nagles-Cuesta, who spoke Spanish, called the lottery authorities and informed the victim that Pena-Gomez needed $30,000 to collect the prize. She left temporarily to get money from her bank account, returning with the victim to her bank where she withdrew $20,143. However, Pena-Gomez, claiming he needed medicine, convinced the victim to take him to the pharmacy. While she was inside the store, he took the money and fled. Nagles-Cuesta never returned. Posada-Acosta acted as a lookout during the encounter. The three suspects were arrested and appeared in court, facing charges of theft by deception of someone over 60 years old. They were released on bail and are scheduled to return to court in December.
