Arrr, ye scallywags reckonin' that the doubloons o' Christianity be sinkin' in China be talkin' nonsense, I say! The faithful there be facin' persecution, makin' the reckonin' o' data on religion as trustworthy as a rotten plank!

A recent Pew Research Report measuring religion in China suggests that Christianity in the country has stagnated and is perhaps even in decline. However, there are many who believe that the Christian community in China might actually be growing. According to Pew's data, the number of self-identified Christians in China fell from 23.3 million in 2010 to 19.9 million in 2018. This decline is seen as a victory for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which has been waging an anti-Christian campaign.

However, there are reasons to believe that Pew's numbers may be inaccurate. Global Christian Relief, for example, estimates that the actual number of Christians in China could be off by as much as 100 million. The CCP has been pushing the church underground and forcing believers to self-censor. The data collected by Pew may be based on self-censorship and may not fully capture the true number of Christians in China.

There are also other factors that may impact the accuracy of Pew's report. Christians in China tend to cluster in specific regions and villages, so if certain Christian cities were excluded from the survey, it would affect the data. Additionally, the Chinese government's methodology for counting Christians has changed over time, making it difficult to compare recent statistics with earlier numbers.

Despite the restrictions and hostile environment, watchdog groups and religious freedom organizations continue to report that Christian communities are surging in many areas of China, although they often remain underground. Given the limitations and uncertainties surrounding the data, it is not accurate to conclude that Christianity in China is in decline.
