In a shocking turn of events, Eduardo Escobedo, also known as "El Mago," was fatally shot in Los Angeles County on Thanksgiving morning. Escobedo, a convicted drug trafficker with ties to a cartel kingpin, was one of two men killed in the incident. Authorities reported that both men died at the scene after the Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about shots fired in the area. Another individual, who remains unidentified, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr., a 47-year-old convicted drug dealer, was identified as the other victim in the shooting. "El Mago" was known for his role as the primary local marijuana distributor to Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, the eldest son of notorious drug lord "El Chapo." Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Escobedo became involved in the drug trade, eventually earning the trust of the cartel.
Escobedo's involvement extended beyond distribution, as he allegedly helped launder the cartel's earnings by purchasing exotic cars and sending them to Culiacan, the capital of the Sinaloa cartel. However, his criminal activities caught up with him, leading to a nearly five-year prison sentence for conspiring to distribute over 22,000 pounds of marijuana. Escobedo was released from prison in 2018.
