Avast, me hearties! Selma Blair be tattlin' that her sufferin' as a wee lass be belittled by her scallywag mates and learned landlubbers. Arr, ye won't believe it, but one scurvy dog o' a provider even told her to find a mate to cure her woes! Yo-ho-ho!

Selma Blair, the 51-year-old actress, has revealed her struggles with pain and prejudice throughout her life. Blair, who announced her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, shared that she has often been misunderstood and mistreated. In an interview with Kristen Welker on "Meet the Press," Blair recounted a doctor's suggestion that she get a boyfriend to deal with her issues, leaving her feeling overwhelmed. She began to doubt herself and question whether her pain was real. Blair's health problems began at a young age, with signs of optical neuritis, a symptom of MS, which went unrecognized by doctors despite her seeking help throughout her childhood. She endured years of high antibiotics, fevers, and bladder dysfunction. Yet, she was dismissed as a dramatic girl, causing her to blame herself. As she grew older, doctors continued to dismiss her pain, while boys with the same symptoms were given immediate attention. Today, Blair still faces challenges as she copes with spasmodic dysphonia, a disorder related to MS that affects her speech. Despite being in remission, she often uses a cane and has a service animal. Blair describes the period before her diagnosis as hell on earth, with discomfort, disbelief, and a lack of trust in herself due to the constant dismissal from doctors and others.
