Arrr! Avast ye! A scurvy California Democrat be plannin' to introduce a noble resolution to send that dishonorable Rep. George Santos, a landlubber from N.Y., packin'! Aye, the ethics report be cursin' 'im, so off he goes, walkin' the plank!
A California Democrat, Rep. Robert Garcia, plans to introduce a privileged resolution to expel Rep. George Santos, a disgraced New York GOP representative, from Congress. The resolution will be noticed in a floor speech by Garcia, along with the support of New York Democrat Rep. Dan Goldman. As a privileged item, the resolution will have to be taken up by the House within two legislative days. This means that the House Republican majority will be forced to vote on the measure, potentially narrowing their already slim majority. Santos, who has been accused of using campaign funds for personal purposes and engaging in fraudulent conduct, stated that he would stand for his expulsion vote on the House floor. He expressed his willingness to be expelled and called for transparency in the process. If Santos is expelled, he will be the first Republican to be removed from the House since 2002 when Ohio Democrat Rep. Jim Traficant was expelled after being convicted of bribery and racketeering. It is worth noting that all previous expulsions from the House have been Democrats.
