Arrr, me hearties! The United Nations cap'n, António Guterres, be settin' sail on a mission to uncover the truth 'bout the dastardly deeds o' alleged sexual violence. Israel be accusin' those scallywaggin' Hamas terrorists o' committin' these misdoings on the seventh day o' Octobre! Aye, let the investigation begin!

The United Nations has agreed to investigate the sexual violence that Israel claims Hamas terrorists committed against Israeli women and girls during their invasion on Oct. 7. This decision comes after more than 50 days of Israel demanding that the UN and its human rights groups look into the allegations. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres broke weeks of silence on the issue, stating that reports of rape and sexual assault must be vigorously investigated and that gender-based violence must be condemned. However, his statement was met with criticism from the Israeli Ambassador to the U.N., who accused Guterres of trying to satisfy critics and doubted the need for an investigation. The Israeli ambassador announced that next week Israeli officials would provide evidence of Hamas' alleged sexual crimes and invited the Secretary-General to condemn Hamas and open an investigation. Israel also attempted to have the United Nations recognize and condemn Hamas' actions against Israeli women and girls during a meeting in Geneva. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, an associate professor, accused the U.N. rights bodies of downplaying and minimizing sexual violence to perpetuate Israel as the aggressor in the conflict. She expressed deep concern over the lack of recognition and acknowledgment of Hamas' sexual crimes by the international human rights world. Guterres did not provide details on when the investigation would begin or how long it would last.
