A 59-year-old man named Patrick Scott has been charged with murder, obstruction of justice, and false informing in the case of a missing 17-year-old girl from central Indiana. Human remains were found buried in a pit on Scott's property, leading to the murder charges. Scott appeared in Rush County Circuit Court for an initial hearing and has been ordered to be jailed without bond. A public defender has been appointed to represent him.The missing girl, Valerie Tindall, went missing on June 7 after telling her parents she was going to work. She worked for Scott, who owned a lawn mowing business. According to court documents, Tindall met Scott and he drove her back to his home that afternoon. Arlington, where the incident took place, is located about 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
In October, cadaver-sniffing dogs indicated the smell of decomposition in a nearby pond, but no evidence was found at the time. However, on Tuesday, police found a large dirt pile and debris on Scott's property. Upon further investigation, they discovered a rectangular box wrapped in tarp, containing human remains and fingernails painted with orange polish, which matched a photo of Tindall with orange-colored nails posted on social media.
Scott was arrested and told investigators that he strangled Tindall with his belt in his bedroom when she tried to blackmail and seduce him. The remains have not yet been officially identified as those of Tindall, but Sheriff Allan Rice stated that it is likely.
While this is a grim outcome, Sheriff Rice emphasized that the case is far from over and that justice will be sought. Tindall's family trusted Scott, as she worked for him and spent time with his family, but the truth of what happened is now being revealed.
