Arr, me hearties! The HBO scallywag Bill Maher be givin' a right ol' tongue-lashin' to that tech swashbuckler Elon Musk, for his blimey post 'bout them critics o' his bein' called antisemitic. It be causin' quite a ruckus fer the owner o' X!
In a recent episode of "Real Time," host Bill Maher criticized billionaire Elon Musk over a controversial post he made on X, which Maher deemed "really antisemitic." While Maher had previously shown overwhelming support for Musk's takeover of the platform, he questioned whether Musk still held such beliefs after his recent visit to Israel. Dave Rubin, host of "The Rubin Report," defended Musk, stating that he had never held antisemitic or conspiratorial beliefs. He argued that Musk's post on X was intended for left-wing Jewish groups like the Anti-Defamation League. Maher conceded that Musk may not be an antisemite, but he found the tweet and Musk's response to be problematic.Musk has faced backlash for seemingly endorsing an antisemitic post on X. The post accused Jewish communities of promoting hatred against whites and expressed indifference towards the struggles faced by Western Jews. Musk's reply, "You have said the actual truth," drew further criticism. Musk later clarified that he was targeting the ADL and its progressive politics, claiming that the organization unfairly attacks the majority while failing to criticize minority groups.
Critics have accused Musk and X of not doing enough to combat antisemitic rhetoric on the platform. As a result, major advertisers like IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, and Paramount have pulled their ads from X. Musk filed a lawsuit against the liberal advocacy group Media Matters, alleging that they misled advertisers by misrepresenting the user experience on the platform.
During an appearance at The New York Times Dealbook Summit, Musk responded to the companies boycotting X by telling them to "go f--- yourself." This was in response to Disney CEO Bob Iger defending the company's decision to stop advertising on X.
