Arrr, me hearties! The College Board's newfangled African American Studies course, in all its glory, be abandonin' the CRT and LGBTQ matters that caused quite the stir. Aye, a wise decision, me thinks, lest we find ourselves in a sea of confusion!

The College Board has released the latest version of its controversial AP African American studies course, after facing backlash and criticism from Florida's Department of Education. The revised curriculum removes the heavy emphasis on critical race theory and LGBTQ issues, but retains content on Black feminism and Colin Kaepernick's anti-police protest. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis supported the decision to cut out topics associated with Black Lives Matter and the queer experience. The College Board acknowledged the contentious process in approving the curriculum, stating that subject-matter experts and experienced teachers were consulted to ensure a course that reflects the student experience. The final revision eliminates most LGBTQ content and all lessons on critical race theory and structural racism. However, it does include terms like "systemic oppression" and "systemic marginalization" related to critical race theory. Educators also have the option to teach about the Black Lives Matter movement and topics like "intersectionality." The course covers various aspects of African American history, including the experiences of Black women during slavery and the achievements of Black athletes like Colin Kaepernick. Lead author Brandi Waters described the course as a vibrant introduction to a dynamic field that offers a broader perspective and hopes that every interested student has the opportunity to take it. Governor DeSantis' office and the College Board have not yet commented on the revised course.
