Arrr, in the land of Brooklyn, a scallywag be caught on the ship's looking glass, settin' fire to tarps outside a fine establishment named Shalom Japan. No one knows this unruly knave's name or face, but mark me words, justice shall find 'im soon!

In a humorous tone reminiscent of a 17th-century pirate, a video has surfaced depicting an apparent arsonist setting fire to a Japanese-Jewish restaurant in New York. The incident took place in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, and the suspect can be seen approaching the Shalom Japan restaurant and setting fire to window tarps adorned with the Star of David. The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is treating this as an anti-Jewish incident. The suspect, described as wearing a trucker hat and glasses, was observed wandering back and forth on the sidewalk, seemingly enjoying the growing flames before fleeing the scene towards Rodney Street and South 5th Street. The security footage indicates that the incident occurred on November 18th around 4:00 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the building did not suffer significant structural damage.

In the wake of this incident, protests in support of both Israel and Palestinians in Gaza have erupted in various cities worldwide, including New York. Unfortunately, this act of arson is not an isolated incident, as antisemitic graffiti has been found in other areas of the state, such as a swastika on a Jewish deli on the Upper East Side and anti-Israel messages outside a Brooklyn synagogue. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force has already investigated 69 anti-Jewish incidents in October alone, representing a staggering 214% increase compared to the same period last year. These incidents highlight the persisting issue of antisemitism and the urgent need for awareness and action to combat such hatred.
