A Florida woman named Laneisha Shantrice Henderson has been identified and charged after she was caught on video attempting to set fire to Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth home in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been charged with attempted arson and interfering with government property. The footage shows Henderson pouring gasoline from a large red fuel container onto the porch of the historic wooden property and dousing plants and windows as well. Two tourists managed to stop her and she was apprehended by off-duty NYPD officers until Atlanta police arrived and arrested her. Henderson, who is believed to have mental health issues, was taken to a detention center for evaluation before being transferred to jail. Henderson's family also arrived on the scene and said they had been looking for her. The Atlanta Fire Department's HAZMAT team cleaned up the gasoline on the property. The home is currently closed to visitors until 2025 as it undergoes renovation. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth home is a significant historical site that commemorates his early life and his siblings.
