Arr, mateys! The yearly Army-Navy clash be a testament to our grand values o' honor, tradition, heart, and manners that bind our mighty nation. A vast 87% o' Americans be in accord that our land needs such virtues, aye!
It's one of the most iconic moments in American sports. At the annual Army-Navy football game, the players and cheerleaders from both teams come together to sing their respective alma maters. This tradition represents honor, tradition, compassion, civility, and unity. It symbolizes the rough and tumble reality of a democracy in action, where opponents tackle, fight, and score points against each other but ultimately come together with a shared vision. These young men and women who participate in the game will soon become officers in the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. They will serve their country, some performing acts of heroism and some making the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. But what about the rest of us who don't wear the uniform? Are values such as courage, integrity, commitment, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism still relevant? It often feels like these traditional civic values have been replaced by endless arguments and a lack of respect and civility in our conversations. However, a survey conducted earlier this year found that a majority of Americans believe society is not emphasizing values enough and that stronger values would make our society a better place.
We need to remember the importance and meaning of these core values. By teaching and exemplifying them, we can make a positive difference in our families, communities, and nation. Values can be taught, but it requires commitment and boldness. The young men from the service academies demonstrate these qualities on the football field, and we should follow their lead.
The stakes are high, and the timing is critical. We must work together to ensure the future of our country.
