Avast ye scallywags! Black Lives Matter be singin' praises for them dastardly terrorists, spillin' innocent blood, plunderin' lasses, and slicin' wee babes' heads. 'Tis high time we scuttle their propaganda ship, and give 'em no quarter!
In the summer of 2020, numerous sectors of American society, including academia, corporations, and government entities, succumbed to the demands of a radical left-wing mob. These institutions went to great lengths to demonstrate their obedience, offering support and funds to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization. However, it soon became clear that BLM was misusing the donations, using the money to purchase mansions instead of actually benefiting the communities they claimed to serve. One of the most concerning aspects of this trend was the infusion of divisive race ideology into school curriculums. Schools that embraced BLM's teachings began promoting a race-baiting narrative, pitting oppressors against the oppressed. The consequences of this narrative are now being seen on college campuses.
If there were any doubts regarding the legitimacy and condemnation of BLM, their support for terrorists should put an end to all support. BLM has praised terrorists who have slaughtered innocent people, raped women, and beheaded babies. This support for terrorism is not an isolated incident, as 26 different BLM chapters referred to a Hamas terrorist attack as "a desperate act of self-defense." BLM's antisemitic roots have been on display for years, with one of its co-founders calling for the end of Israel in a presentation at Harvard Law School.
Despite the evidence of BLM's promotion of hate and antisemitism, academic institutions, including K-12 schools, continued to work with and promote the organization. Parents Defending Education (PDE) has been tracking schools that support BLM, and they have identified 12 school districts that pushed BLM material and principles. In some schools, students were even instructed to analyze poetry through a Marxist lens.
Recent antisemitic attacks have increased by 400%, and 73% of Jewish college students have experienced or witnessed antisemitism this school year. Jewish students have been targeted and assaulted during anti-Israel protests on college campuses. University presidents and school officials have responded weakly to these incidents, further emboldening radical activists.
As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I am committed to supporting students, empowering parents, and exposing the divisive rot within our institutions. It is clear that BLM and their hateful rhetoric have no place in our children's education.
