Avast ye, me hearties! The cap'n of the Illinois NAACP be beggin' pardon fer callin' them migrant souls "savages," rapscallions, and burglars! Calls be ringin' out fer her to walk the plank and resign, by Blackbeard's beard!

The president of the Illinois NAACP, Teresa Haley, has issued an apology after making derogatory comments about migrants during a conference call. She referred to them as "savages," rapists, and burglars. Haley expressed her sincere apologies to anyone who may have been hurt or offended by her comments and stated that she loves and values all members of the community, including immigrants. Despite the controversy, she remains an advocate for denouncing injustices, racism, and discrimination and claims to be empathetic to the plight of all people. Haley stated that she embraces the mission of the civil rights organization. The leaked video of the meeting where she made the comments has prompted calls for her resignation. Patrick Watson, the former NAACP DuPage County president, called for her resignation and criticized her comments, stating that they were things that were said about Black people, which goes against the organization's founding principles. Governor JB Pritzker also condemned her remarks as "extraordinarily inappropriate." Haley, who is also the president of the NAACP Springfield branch, is seeking election to the national NAACP board of directors. Her comments come as thousands of migrants have arrived in Chicago due to the migrant crisis at the southern border. The City of Chicago reports that more than 25,000 people have arrived in the city since August 2022. The Illinois NAACP and the national office of the NAACP have not yet responded to requests for comment.
