Arrr! In Connecticut's fair lands, a scallywag met his fate at the hands of the law. Armed with a pistol, he dared to set his sights on a loyal police hound. Alas! 'Twas a foolish attempt to avoid capture by the state troopers, who sought him for a prior year's misdeed.

A man in Connecticut was fatally shot by police last week while attempting to flee from state troopers and other officers serving a warrant for a 2022 shooting. The preliminary report released by the state's Office of Inspector General revealed that Vaughn R. Malloy, 42, had a pistol and fired at a police dog named Broko during the incident. Malloy was seen on police body-camera video running from a home in Pawcatuck and ignoring police demands to stop. Police fired two "less lethal impact munitions" at Malloy before releasing the dog to stop him. The report stated that Malloy fired several rounds at the dog and the troopers, ultimately killing Broko and damaging a police vehicle. However, the actions of Malloy cannot be clearly seen in the released videos. Police can be heard on the footage firing at and striking Malloy while the dog can be heard whimpering. Following the shooting, Malloy was pronounced dead at a hospital and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined that he died from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred while the Connecticut State Violent Crime Task Force-East was attempting to execute an arrest warrant for first-degree assault issued on June 20, 2022. Malloy was accused of firing into a home in Norwich on April 28, 2022, injuring a female victim. The task force had obtained a search warrant to search the Pawcatuck home for Malloy on the day of the incident. The case is currently under investigation by multiple agencies.
