Gay's testimony before a House Committee investigating antisemitic protests on university campuses also drew attention to her use of double standards. However, her removal does not resolve this issue or the pervasive anti-Jewish sentiment at Harvard and other elite institutions. Furthermore, no sanctions have been imposed on the Harvard board members who hired Gay despite her lack of qualifications and defended her plagiarism.

The public campaign to remove Gay from her position at Harvard was a necessary step, but it has not fully addressed the serious problems within the institution. DEI bureaucracies continue to promote discriminatory ideologies, research integrity standards are weakening, and codes of conduct are selectively enforced. It is crucial to dismantle these bureaucracies and promote consistent standards for academic research. Additionally, universities need to protect free academic speech while prosecuting violations of conduct codes.

Gay's removal, along with other recent departures, indicates a turning tide in academia. However, more action is required to restore these institutions to their original missions. The focus should shift to the policies and practices that allowed individuals like Gay to rise to leadership positions, and efforts should be made to eliminate departments that prioritize political advocacy over rigorous inquiry, such as ethnic and gender studies departments. Strong protections for academic speech and consistent enforcement of conduct codes are also essential.
