Arr, our tattered energy plan be leavin' us landlubbers in the depths of darkness, me hearties!

Arrr, mateys! The power grid of America be at peril, thanks to a whimsical energy policy that be leanin' too heavily on renewables. Aye, as we speak, 19 states be facin' the threat o' dreadful blackouts!

American families and businesses expect reliable and affordable electricity, but our country is facing a harsh reality - there may not be enough electricity to go around. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), the nation's grid watchdog, has warned of mounting threats to grid reliability and the potential for rolling blackouts to become more frequent. Nine states experienced rolling blackouts at the end of 2022, and NERC predicts that half of the nation could face the same risk during extreme weather this winter. Looking ahead, NERC forecasts that 19 states are at high risk of rolling blackouts in the next five years.

The current state of our nation's energy policy is to do more with less, but this is not possible considering our increasing reliance on electricity for various sectors of the economy. Additionally, there is a reduction in power supply as power plants shut down to comply with regulations. The process for building energy infrastructure is also hindered by red tape and litigation.

The EPA's proposed rule to overhaul power plant operations could lead to more blackouts and higher costs, violating the Clean Air Act. The Biden administration's secret deal to breach dams on the Lower Snake River further jeopardizes reliable electricity in the Pacific Northwest.

While renewable resources can be part of the solution, we also need always available energy resources for reliability. Long-term solutions require time, technology development, and new transmission infrastructure. Strengthening the grid requires coordination, visibility of growing electricity demand, and policies that promote new power generation and transmission.

Keeping the lights on is crucial for America's economy and national security. It is important for policymakers to acknowledge the need for reliable electricity and work towards a sustainable energy future.
