Arrr, me shipmates! Fear not, this House Committee be steadfast in its pursuit o' impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. No scurvy dog can thwart our plans, for we be resolute in our cause!
For the past three years, our borders have been facing an unprecedented crisis that could have easily been avoided if it weren't for the intentional actions of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This crisis is of epic proportions, with over 8.1 million encounters of inadmissible aliens recorded by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) between February 2021 and November 2023. More than 6.7 million of these encounters occurred at the Southwest border alone. To make matters worse, over 1.8 million known individuals have slipped past the Border Patrol and are now at large in communities across the United States. CBP has no information on these individuals, including their potential criminal histories or intentions. There is overwhelming evidence that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to fulfill his duty to secure the homeland and uphold the laws passed by Congress. The House Committee on Homeland Security's investigative reports have extensively detailed how his refusal to uphold laws, termination of effective border security policies, and implementation of operationally unsound policies have led to this crisis. He has also misled Congress and the American people about the causes and consequences of the crisis. This intentional failure requires serious consequences, including the consideration of articles of impeachment.
Secretary Mayorkas' policies have not only allowed criminal cartels to profit from expanded drug and human smuggling operations at the Southwest border but have also resulted in a staggering loss of human life. Fentanyl flowing across the border is killing Americans in record numbers. The morale of CBP and ICE personnel has tanked, and the Secretary has falsely accused our brave Border Patrol agents of misconduct. Criminal aliens are being apprehended, yet DHS arrests of these individuals have dramatically decreased. Migrants are suffering and dying during their treacherous journey north, even on U.S. soil.
The fiscal impacts of this crisis are also significant, with communities being forced to bear the financial burden of illegal immigration and cut essential services for Americans. The annual costs of the border crisis under Secretary Mayorkas' watch could exceed $451 billion.
The House Committee intends to act on the mandate given by the 201 Democrats who voted to refer articles of impeachment. These proceedings will focus on the chaos and devastation caused by the crisis at our borders, as well as the decisions and actions of Secretary Mayorkas. It is not a partisan spectacle but a serious examination of his failure to fulfill his oath of office, abuse of power, and dishonesty with Congress and the American people.
Holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable is not just about undoing the damage of the past three years but also about defending the separation of powers and ensuring that the laws passed by Congress are upheld. Failure to do so would pose an existential threat to our republic.
This Committee will not be deterred in initiating impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas, as he has blatantly disregarded the rule of law and persisted in his failed policies and deceitful actions. It is crucial to take this step and protect our republic from further harm.
