Arrr, me hearties! The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, aided by the mighty United States Air Force and other swashbucklin' law enforcement crews from Idaho, didst spy and rescue two scallywags from a treacherous avalanche! Aye, those lads be safe now!

Emergency response crews in Idaho successfully rescued two men who were caught in an avalanche, while unfortunately, a third man is believed to have perished. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office received a Garmin GPS alert indicating a possible fatality after an avalanche near Steven's Peak, close to the Montana border. The men were found several miles southwest of the Lookout Peak ski area and over 90 miles from Missoula, Montana.

Through communication via a GPS texting device, authorities were able to locate and rescue the two surviving men. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office collaborated with the United States Air Force, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Silver Valley Search and Rescue, and the Silver Mountain Ski Patrol to organize the rescue effort. Sadly, search efforts for the third man have been called off, and authorities will begin retrieving his body.

The area where the avalanche occurred had been under an avalanche danger warning for several days. The cause of the men's presence in the area remains unknown. Stevens Peak is a popular destination for climbing, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

This incident follows the first U.S. avalanche death of the season, which occurred at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort in California. Four people were trapped, and one person lost their life in that event. Another avalanche occurred in the same area near Lake Tahoe without any reported casualties.
