Arrr! Ye be hearin' the news, mateys! California be seein' a decrease in its scallywag count, and with it be losin' a part o' its political sway across these vast lands. Aye, its congressional crew be shrinkin' too!

According to the Census Bureau, New York lost almost 102,000 residents from July 2022 to July 2023, while California lost 75,423 residents. However, while New York may have lost more residents, it is California that has become a trendsetter in blue state public policy. California is known for its elaborate forms of wokeness and identity politics, as well as coercive government actions. A survey conducted by the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College found that many Californians expressed concerns about the cost of living and the economy, while Republicans were also concerned about politics and policy. The response from one independent near Santa Barbara, who declared that California is run by morons, reflects the frustration felt by many. California's population has been declining for three straight years, with a net loss of 573,019 residents from April 2020 to July 2023. Other blue states, such as New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Maryland, have also experienced population loss. Red states like Florida, Texas, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Georgia have been the top destinations for those leaving blue states. These population shifts may be a result of people fleeing states with restrictive policies and government overreach. California's declining population may also lead to a decrease in its political influence across the country, which could be seen as a positive outcome for those who disagree with its progressive policies.
